The industrial sector of Thulusdhoo has always been diverse and unique compared to the other island of Maldives. A workshop for boat construction, and factories for drying sea cucumbers and fish are some of the examples. But perhaps the main attraction is the Coca Cola factory in Thulusdhoo.
Built in the 80’s the Coca Cola company is the only one in Maldives. It’s also unique when compared to the other factories of the world, as the one in Thulusdhoo is the only Coca Cola plant in the world which uses desalinated water.
Thulusdhoo is not a big island so there is not much to see. Hence, you might want to stop by the Coca Cola factory as it is certainly a unique site which you will not find anywhere in the world. They have two days’ tour open from the factory usually at 9am and at 2pm, but you should drop by the factory and ask yourself about the tour timings just to be sure.
Due to the presence of the Coca Cola factory in the island, Thulusdhoo is sometimes referred to as coke’s island, in fact the nearest surfing spot was named cokes due to this fact. The tour doesn’t take long and it’s a great chance to gain some knowledge about the soda industry in Maldives and experience something different on your holiday
